Dear Sir,

Sub: Better promotional avenues for Senior Physiotherapists in Indian Railways

There are only a handful number of posts in the category of Physiotherapists in different Railway Hospitals. Total On Roll Strength currently workout to be 85+ only against total strength of 110+ over the entire Indian Railway Hospitals. There has been no restructuring of the posts in PB-II, GP Rs.4800(Level 8 of VII CPC Pay Matrix) and PB-III, GP Rs.5400(Level 10 of VII CPC Pay Matrix) after initially sanctioning of 07 posts in the Gazetted Cadre (04 posts in GP Rs.4800 and 03 posts in GP Rs.5400) in the year 1999 against total cadre strength of 49 only. This has led to stagnation of Senior Physiotherapists in PB-II, GP Rs.4600(Level 7) for years together, causing serious discontentment and frustration among this category in Indian Railways.

It may be appreciated that, the role of Physiotherapy is gaining more-and more importance these days because of various kinds of ailments of joint pains etc. as also due to frequent fractures etc. taking place in the accidents, with the result that, workload on the Physiotherapists is increasing remarkably.

In this connection, we are also enclosing copies of the Office Memorandum of the PGIMER, Chandigarh and Gazette Notification No.G.S.R.119 dated 12th April, 2018 of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, wherein structure of Physiotherapists in higher grades is available up to Level 12 of the 7th CPC Pay Matrix.

AIRF, therefore, desire that, the category of Physiotherapists in Indian Railways be restructured to provide higher grade posts, facilitating promotion with a view to motivate them to work with more sincerity and devotion. Moreover, more number of posts need to be sanctioned in PB-II, GP Rs.4800(Level 8 of VII CPC Pay Matrix) and PB-III, GP Rs.5400(Level 10 of VII CPC Pay Matrix) to avoid stagnation and frustration amongst Senior Physiotherapists of the Indian Railways.
