Subject :- Extension of cut-off date for exercising Option of Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) under NPS by two months i.e. upto 30th November, 2025.
Ref: (i) Board’s letter of even number dated 28.03.2025. (ii) Board’s letter of even number dated 04.07.2025.
Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) vide Gazette Notification No. PFRDA/12/01/0001/2023-LEGAL dated 19.03.2025 had issued the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (Operationalisation of Unified Pension Scheme under National Pension System) Regulations, 2025 to operationalise the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) introduced by the Central Government as an option under the National Pension System (NPS) for the employees of the Central Government who are covered under the NPS. The said notification was circulated on Railways vide the letter mentioned under reference dated 28.03.2025.
- Subsequently, PFRDA vide Circular No. PFRDA/2025/04/SUP-CG-SG/01 dated 26.06.2025 had extended the cut-off date for exercising the option for UPS for three months i.e. upto 30th September 2025. The said circular of PFRDA was circulated on Railways vide the letter mentioned under reference dated 04.07.2025.
- Now, PFRDA vide Circular No. PFRDA/2025/14/SUP-CG-SG/06 dated 06.10.2025 has again extended the cut-off date for exercising the option for UPS for two months i.e. upto 30th November, 2025. The said circular of PFRDA shall apply mutatis-mutandis on Railways also.
- The Fundamental Rule 56(j) and Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965 mentioned in the said circular correspond to Rule 1802(a) of Chapter-18 of Indian Railway Establishment Code Vol. II (1987-edition) and Railway Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1968 respectively.
