International Women’s Day – 8th March, 2017 was celebrated today by Accounts Division of Northern Railwaymen’s Union, in J.P. Memorial Library, 4 State Entry Road, with full zeal and enthusiasm with the theme “Be Visible”.
The programme was conducted by Com. Ms Jaya Agarwal, Convener, Women Wing AIRF. She explained the essence of the theme “Be Visible”, that, women should recognize their power, capability and with the confidence should prove their existence. She also discussed the UN theme on IWD 2017 – “Planet 50-50 by 2030”.
The programme was inaugurated by Com. Shiva Gopal Mishra, General Secretary, NRMU-AIRF, along with Com. Ch. Gandhi, AGS/AIRF, Com. L.N. Pathak, ZS/AIRF/RCFMU/RBL, Com. S.U. Shah, VP/NRMU(NR), in the presence of approximately 250 women activists.
Com. Shiva Gopal Mishra, while talking about the women empowerment said, it is a matter of satisfaction that, women are taking part actively in the trade union activities. Though time is tough as 7th CPC is not as per our expectations as well a number of issues are lying pending with the Railway Board since long. He said, “I know that, major concern of the women employees is curtailment in the Child Care Leave by the 7th CPC”. He further said, “AIRF, being free, democratic and an independent organization, will leave no stone unturned for the sake of the employees as well as Railway Industry”. He further added, “We are committed to fight for justice and right for the last employee in the Railway Industry”.
Sister Nishi Kapahi, Women Coordinator, Asia/Pacific Region ITF, also graced the occasion. She said, “this is time to congratulate women fraternity of AIRF-NRMU as I am with you since the time when “International Women’s Day” was organized by the male leaders, and that time women were only in the audience, but gradually, through the empowerment and awareness you have proved your importance and capability and are able to conduct the IWD by the women for the women”.
A basic health check-up camp was also organized on this occasion for women employees. Dr. Madhu Kaushal, HoD(Medicine) NRCH, was invited to give lecture on Cardiac Care – Alarm, Stress Management.. Numbers of women were found anemic, high blood pressure and diabetic.
Message of Ms Preeti Jha, GM CRIS, “respect yourself and the world will respect you, be courageous and the world will salute you”, was conveyed to the women.
Com. U.K. Singh, Divisional Secretary, Accounts Division, thanked to each single women present there, and said, that, today’s strength gave me confidence to conduct more and more women specific programmes and a Divisional Women Conference of Accounts Division will be also be held soon.
Com. S.U. Sah, VP/NRMU, discussed Accounts Staff related issues and conveyed their greetings on the occasions.
Com. Ms. Sonia Hasiza, Com. Ms Anita, Com. Ms Sadhna, Com. Ms Manju Sharma, Com. Ms Manju Kiran, Com. Ms. Sunita, Com. Ms. Babita, Com. Ms Renu, Com. Ms Seema P. Kahar, contributed their best to make the programme successful.
